CT Scan of Barbie..

Today is a very long day.. lecture from 10 to 12 noon then Radiation lab from 1pm to 6pm.. lecture was boring toking abt color image processing.. but lab was interesting.. haha

we were supposed to do a CT scan of Barbie doll.. (apparently she was kena shot by a bullet n its lodged inside her perfect figure n we r supposed to do a CT scan to find out where exactly it is.. )

There is a radiation source which is emitted n passed thru Barbie's body where it will be detected on the other side.. the amount of radiation detected by the detector will tell us if any part of the body is more dense than the rest.. in our case, the bullet will absorb most of the radiation compared to the rest of the body, thus the detector will yield a low reading..
Yah there is a radioactive source but it is rather mild.. n there is a casing around the machine to protect us from the radiation.. if the cover is opened, it will auto shut down the radioactive source..
One more pic of poor Barbie.. in our expt, Barbie was rotated many times so as to get a very accurate picture.. but haha dont worry, in the real case, the detector is rotated around the patient not the other way round..

The full CT scan of Barbie took 1hr 20min.. so the lab demonstrator told us to take a 45 min break..
I had a Daim ice-cream... hmm yummy.. haha a rather suggestive shape for an ice cream but its GOOD.. 18kr though (abt 4+ Sing bucks) well i wouldnt pay more than 2 dollars for an ice cream back in Singapore.. but bo bian lah..


Yeah!! Results of Barbie's CT scan out..

as u can see here, the blue part shows where the bullet is.. becos its much denser thats why it appears like that.. the lighter blue one on the side r her arms.. this is the cross section of her body.. first we do a X-axis scan to find out where is the bullet.. then once we find the location, then we do a Y-axis scan to get the exact location, therby producing this cross-section..
yah n YES.. the two bumps is her BREASTS.. haha.. that means the bullet is lodged in her back..

The picture below is a sinogram.. basically the dark blue part is the bullet.. it appears as a long strip... aiyah this is quite hard to explain by typing here but i explain by toking abt it.. thus i shall not do it in this blog.. the main pts is we found the bullet!! nah we r not gonna remove it from her.. we just gonna do our lab report n submit in 2 weeks.. haha :P
